November: Pray for Vocations

Let us lift up our prayers this month for vocations during the month of November, the month of vocations.

Below are prayers for our priests and missionaries, along with a special prayer for vocations for each week of November—the month of Vocations. Please join our church family in praying these throughout the month, that God may hear our voice.
A Prayer for Priests
"The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus." - St. Jean Vianney
Jesus Christ, Great High Priest,
You are able to sympathize with our human weakness
Strengthen your priests for the work of ministry.
You healed, proclaimed, and taught. Renew your priests
in their concern for the poor, zeal for the Gospel, and personal witness to virtue.
You instituted the sacraments as signs of heavenly grace.
Make holy your priests for this sacred service.
You bore our sufferings and sins upon yourself.
May your priests remain close to the broken-hearted.
Jesus Christ, Great High Priest, bring your priests ever closer to your Sacred Heart.
Amen.
Blessing of Missionaries
So often we think of missionaries as those people from Protestant churches that go to other counties to spread the good news. However, do you realize that the United States is actually considered a “mission country” because we need more priests and sisters in the United States than we produce? Yes, we are now a mission country. Let us ask God’s blessing on those men and women from other countries who are in our midst as priests, brothers, and sisters. And when we pray, let us also ask God to change our hearts so that we will again produce a society that brings forth more vocations.
Let us pray...
God of every nation, you commissioned us at Pentecost to go and make disciples of all nations.
When we take up your commission, we become missionaries of your Gospel.
Bless all missionaries in our communities with your love that surpasses all understanding.
Change our hearts so that we become the missionaries you expect us to be.
We ask this through Jesus, the first missionary of your Gospel.
Amen.
Prayer for Vocations Week 1
Dear Lord,
How lovely are your ways!
Guide each of us closer to your will.
Pour your courage into those you are calling
to the vocations of married, religious,
consecrated, and single life.
Help them to respond boldly,
and with trust in your provision.
Amen.
Prayer for Vocations Week 2
For our married couples, strengthen their covenant.
For our religious sisters, surround them with Your love.
For our priests, support them as they guide.
For our parents, sustain them in Your grace.
For our religious brothers, draw them nearer to You.
For our consecrated singles, be everything they need.
For those discerning, be with them as they journey.
Amen.
Prayer for Vocations Week 3
Loving and Generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You.
Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we experience it today.
Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future
Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ's Mission of love and justice.
Bless the Churches of our parish; Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Catherine, St. Joseph, St. Mary, St. Rose de Viterbo as well as St. Rose School by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve Your people as Sisters, Priests, Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers.
Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call.
We ask this through our Lord.
Prayer for Vocations Week 4
God of all faithfulness,
Help us to be faithful to where You’ve called us. Patience with those You’ve brought into our lives, fortitude for the work You’ve entrusted to our care, endurance for the long seasons where we find ourselves. You’re with us both on the mountaintops and in the valleys. For that, we thank You.
Amen.
Prayer for Vocations Week 5
Good and gracious God,
You call each person by name
and invite them to follow you.
On this World Day of Prayer for Vocations,
may each person hear and respond
to the call they have received.
