Safe Environment Training
To help ensure a safe environment for children, vulnerable adults, and everyone we serve, all parish volunteers—new and returning—must complete Safe Environment training before beginning ministry or volunteer service. Training must be renewed every three years.

Important Training Requirements

New & Returning Volunteers: All volunteers must complete Safe Environment training before beginning any ministry or volunteer service.

Renewal Every Three Years: Safe Environment certification must be renewed every three years to remain current.
How to Check Your Training Status
Please log in to your account at VIRTUS Online to review your training status and renewal date. You may also check your email inbox for reminder messages regarding upcoming or overdue training.
Please understand, for continued compliance, VIRTUS accounts may be deactivated after three unanswered renewal notices. If your account has been deactivated, you will need to contact our Safe Environment Coordinator to have your account reinstated and complete the required training.

If you need assistance with your username, password, registration, or completing the training, please contact the parish office or reach out directly to our Safe Environment Coordinator.
The training can be completed online from the comfort of your home. If you prefer or need assistance, training can also be completed with support in the parish office.

Parish Family Ministries
Adoration Guardian
Help ensure Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone in our Chapel. Guardians commit to a regular hour of silent prayer and reflection, signing in upon arrival.
Our goal is to have at least two Guardians scheduled per hour. We need additional Guardians and substitutes.
All are welcome to attend during scheduled hours but by signing up you help continue the availability of this devotion.

Altar Servers
Serve at the Lord’s table! Altar servers play a vital role in our worship by assisting the clergy during the celebration of Mass and helping our community pray reverently.
Open to boys who have received their First Communion.
Altar Societies
Members support parish life through service projects, fundraising, and caring for the sanctuary. Volunteers will participate in major fundraising activities and service projects through their five Circles: St. Monica, St. Bernadette, St. Anne, St. Joseph, and St. Frances Cabrini.
These circles are responsible for the altar flowers and decorations, event receptions, funeral luncheons, and the Christmas "Caring & Sharing" Trees. Their fund-raisers support purchasing hosts, candles, palms, ashes, laundry services, sacred vessels, altar cloths and linens, and more.

Bible Study Facilitators
Help lead a bible study! We are looking for facilitators to help us host a variety of Bible studies throughout the year at different days and times.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
CGS applies Montessori methods in a reverent and spiritual environment - called an Atrium - where the children learn about Jesus and The Holy Mass through hands-on activities.
Volunteers are needed to assist the lead catechist with directing, observing, and documenting the work of the children. Volunteers can also take the CGS training to become a catechist.
Classes are for children ages 3-12. Open to adults for volunteering.
Choir & Music
Share your musical gifts to inspire our parish community! The music ministry seeks to assist all who attend Mass at our parishes to fully engage in our communal prayer by providing beautiful and reverent music for Weekend and Holy Day Masses as well as other liturgical events.
Open to all.
Detention Ministry
Share the light of Christ with those who are incarcerated. This ministry brings Sunday worship to individuals at the Cowlitz County Jail every 3rd Sunday of the month. Volunteers lead songs, read scripture, lead prayer and provide brief scripture reflections.
Open to adults.
Eucharistic Ministers
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the clergy in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful during Mass and liturgical celebrations.
Open to confirmed adult Catholics.
Filipino Community
Build community and celebrate shared heritage! The Filipino Community brings families together in faith and fellowship, honoring traditional Catholic devotions, continuing rich faith traditions, and supporting parish life. The Filipino Minstry annually hosts the Simbang Gabi, 9-day novena to Sto Nino, and the Sto. Nino feastday.
Open to all members of the Filipino community.
FISH
Help feed our local neighbors in need! FISH collaborates with 18 churches across Longview and Kelso to distribute daily food supplies, nourishing about 30 families and 100 community members each day.
Our parish hosts distribution days every 6 to 8 weeks, featuring two dates at Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) and three at the St. Rose Parish Center during each cycle. You can drop off items anytime in the donation boxes located in the entryways of both churches.

Funeral Hospitality
Extend Christ’s love to grieving families by hosting funeral receptions. Volunteers help with setup, food presentation, serving refreshments or luncheons, and cleanup across our church locations.
Open to all.
Gardening & Groundskeeping
Groundskeeping volunteers keep the parish grounds nice by lawn mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, and other landscaping tasks.
Open to adults.
Greeters
Greeters extend a warm welcome and an open door to everyone arriving for Mass, helping answer questions and ensuring parishioners and guests feel at home.

Grief Ministry
You don’t have to walk alone. GriefShare is a structured, 13-week faith-based support group and seminar designed to offer comfort, healing, and grief education after the loss of a loved one. You are welcome to join our community at any point during the 13 weeks—whenever you are ready, our doors are open. We hold a fall and spring session.

Hands of Mary Rosary Makers
Help spread devotion to Our Lady! Join us to learn the art of rosary making—no experience necessary, and all supplies are provided

Hispanic Ministry
Build community and celebrate shared heritage! The Hispanic Community brings families together in faith and fellowship, honoring traditional Catholic devotions, continuing rich faith traditions, and supporting parish life.
Open to all members of the Hispanic community.
Homebound Ministry
Bring the prayerful presence of Christ and the comfort of the Eucharist to those unable to attend Mass in person. Volunteers offer friendly visits, shared prayer, and Holy Communion to homebound parishioners.
Open to adults.
Hospitality Ministry
Build community and foster parish fellowship! The Hospitality Ministry brings parishioners together to socialize and share refreshments after Sunday Masses. We are currently looking for new volunteers to help serve at the St. Rose location after each Mass.

Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.6 million members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.

Lectors
Bring the Scriptures to life for our parish family! Lectors serve our community during Mass by proclaiming the Word of God with clarity, reverence, and devotion.
Open to confirmed Catholics.
Legion de Maria
La Legión de María evangeliza a los católicos alejados de la fe mediante visitas, acompañamiento pastoral y palabras de aliento. También evangeliza a personas que enfrentan dificultades de vivienda.

Legion of Mary
Legion of Mary evangelizes to fallen away Catholics by visiting, shepherding and providing encouragement. They evangelize those experiencing housing challenges.

Maintenance Committee
Put your talents to work caring for our parish facilities! Maintenance volunteers assist with routine tasks, one-time facility projects, and event setup/cleanup according to their skills.
Volunteers are contacted on an as-needed basis when special projects arise.

Mass Buddy
Be a Mass Buddy! Share your faith and help others who want to learn more about the Catholic Mass! We need singles, couples, families with children, parishioners of all ages who will meet with a new person, couple or family interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith.
This supports our OCIA Becoming Catholic ministry and connects those interested in the Catholic Church with our parishioners attending Sunday Mass or Saturday Vigils.
Contact the Parish office or fill out the Ministry Interest Form. Choose "OCIA" under the ministry options so a team leader can reach out to connect you with someone exploring the faith!
Our Prayer Chain and Prayer Line ministry provides prayer support for anyone facing surgery, illness, grief, or personal concerns.
Submitting Requests
You may submit prayer requests by calling the parish office. Requests sent to the Prayer Line & Prayer Chain are kept strictly confidential and are not announced at Mass or in the bulletin.
Mass Announcements
If you would like your request to be announced during Mass, please explicitly request to add it to the Prayers of the Faithful when you call.
All prayer requests, whether to our Prayer Line & Prayer Chain, or to add your requests to the Prayers of the Faithful should be made by calling the office.

Prayer Line & Prayer Chain
PREPARES
PREPARES (Pregnancy and Parenting Support) serves pregnant women and families with young children. Volunteers serve families with essentials like diapers and clothing, as they walk with parents in need of support during the early years of parenthood. St. Catherine holds a monthly distribution event on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 10:00am-1:00pm. Pop-up distribution events are held at IHM throughout the year and meets needs on an ongoing basis.

Quilting Ministry
The River City Strippers is our local quilt group. Join us on Friday’s from 9:00am-2:00pm at St. Catherine’s in Cathlamet.

OCIA
OCIA seeks volunteers for multiple roles including those willing to help with hospitality or become a Mass Buddy. What is a Mass Buddy? Share your faith and help others who want to learn more about the Catholic Mass! OCIA-C
Do you have a heart for guiding young souls on their faith journey? We are looking for volunteers to support our Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIA-C) program as we welcome children (ages 7+) into the Catholic faith.
Complete our ministry interest form to connect with a ministry leader and discover ways to serve our parish family.
Classes are for children ages 7+. Volunteering is open to adults.
Sacramental Prep 2nd grade+
All faith formation programs need additional adult volunteers to achieve the appropriate child-to-adult ratios established by the Archdiocese. Volunteers must complete Safe Environment training and pass a background check by the first session. Prior experience is not required, and training will be provided.
It takes a parish family to nurture the faith of our youth!
Classes are for children ages 7+. Volunteering is open to adults.
Sacristans
Serve behind the scenes to help Mass run smoothly! Sacristans prepare the sacred books, vessels, and collection bags before service, collaborating with altar servers, lectors, and Extraordinary Ministers. After Mass, they ensure all vessels are properly purified, cleaned, and stored, leaving the sanctuary ready for the next liturgy.

Sound System & Livestream Operators
Help bring Mass to our parish family! Sound and livestream volunteers ensure our sick and homebound parishioners can stay spiritually connected and participate in the liturgy. Our livestream volunteers are needed for the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass at St. Rose.
Livestreams air every Sunday, on Holy Days of Obligation, and for select funerals.

St. Vincent de Paul
Extend Christ’s compassion to neighbors in crisis. St. Vincent de Paul offers emergency food, clothing, and critical support to local families in a respectful, nonjudgmental environment.
Volunteers are needed to pick up rescue items from grocery stores, working in the warehouse, checking in clients via the computer system, guiding clients through the food pantry, checking out clients, helping bag groceries, and help load clients' cars. Visit svdplongview.org to learn more.

Ushers
Ushers serve as ministers of hospitality, assisting parishioners with seating, facilitating the weekly offertory collection, guiding the flow during Holy Communion, and distributing bulletins after Mass.

Well Read Mom
Well-Read Mom accompanies women in reading great literature and spiritual classics to encourage personal growth, friendship, and reflection on what is good, beautiful, and true. Groups read one book a month and meet monthly to discuss themes centered around a woman's life.
This year's theme is “Woman”: "The woman's soul is fashioned as a shelter in which other souls may unfold." -Edith Stein (St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross).

The Youth Group provides weekly a friendly place for teens to gather to learn about their faith, participate in spiritual enrichment, help others through service projects.
Volunteers assist with the greeting and sign-in process, helping set up if needed, assisting with the service projects, help serve snacks, and assist in maintaining a calm, attentive learning environment.
Youth group is open to 6th-8th graders. Open to adults for volunteering.
